Philips: Ride like a star event

It worked. We felt like stars all right. Picture this: you come out of your office and there's a limo parked outside, stocked with chocolate and bubbly, ready to whisk you away for an important meeting. Now if only that happened everyday - but we shouldn't get carried away...

The main thing to rave about is the latest range of GoGear audio/video players from Philips. While the Stuff Staff was riding around the CBD and environs with the lovely folks from Philips and Text 100, we were "administered" a blind test in which we listened to the same song at the same volume on 3 different music players. All of us selected the one that we thought sounded the best - and surprise, surprise - we all chose the Philips GoGear player - without knowing what the others had picked! Not a difficult feat really, because the difference was obvious. The sound was so much clearer and brighter. Every strum of the guitar and beat of the drums was sparkling and larger than life. Their patented FullSound technology, which is designed to restore detail that is lost during MP3 compression, sounds just fabulous.

The new Philips GoGear players featuring FullSound are available at electronic outlets and department stores.

WIN! A Tivoli Audio Music System

We've got a top-of-the-line Tivoli all-in-one audio system worth approx $2000 to give away to one lucky Stuff reader!

There was a time, often referred to as 2004, when audiophiles fuelled their aga burners with the bones of recently slain digital audio users. But, the times have changed – even audio zealots have embraced the convenience of all-in-one digital systems. Why wouldn't they, especially when it comes in a shiny piano-black box?

The Tivoli audio system is not just any other run-of –the-mill iPod docks or music systems out there, it's a monument to the success of the all-in-one digital audio peace process. It uses two incorporated speakers with SpacePhaseTM equalization and it's glorious volume-controllable subwoofers to create expansive sound that will drown out the sound of anyone complaining about your taste in music. How perfect.

Also numerous clever functions allow you to wake up in style with dual alarms that come with a calendar as well. Yeah, if you win this, you can't blame the alarm clock again. The price we have to pay for a marvelous piece of tech which packs a CD player (with shuffle and repeat functions), AM/FM, battery back-up and all that shebang. Rather, good then. Be afraid Vinyl, be very afraid.

Talk about having a ball of a time!

So this is how the story goes:
The Futsal courts at East Coast Park were our destination of choice this month. It was horrendously humid. Is it just us or has the weatherman been just a little over the top lately? We got to work grudgingly and not without much complaining. Hey, we never admitted to embracing the outdoors, and we’re not going to start now.

Glen kicked around a football most of the time to take his mind off the heat. We sorely wished we could join him. The styling part was easy, thanks to the many Adidas jerseys and shoes we could choose from. How very tempting.

Once decked out in football gear, our model Silk proceeded to blow our mind. She was amaaaazing. How she got to be so insanely flexible is beyond us. Did we mention she’s only 18? She could do all these poses while we looked on in a mix of awe and envy. Check out her splits and you’ll know what we mean. (Note to self: take up Yoga)

We decided to do something different this month. Our photographer got up a ladder and shot Silk while she lay below holding a football covering her boobs. We think it turned out rather well, don’t you?Silk was sweating throughout the shoot but managed to keep her cool. To make things better for the poor girl (and us), we moved to the beach to take the Lifestyle Cover shot.I do not know what possessed the photographer but he tried to do stunts with the Kia Rio that was loaned to us for the shoot. We weren’t ready to die, the iPhone isn’t in Singapore yet. We got out of that unscathed, but whether we managed to hold on to our lunches was a different thing...

From Behind The STUFF Scene - May Edition

No, we are not all a bunch of greasy haired gadget geeks with an unhealthy penchant for wired metal objects. Most of us anyway. Just to let you in on how tough we are, we are going for macho this month. And nothing oozes masculinity than muscled, expletive spewing Harley Davidson riders, no?

And thus, we had the pleasure of dressing up our celebrity model Thy from Vietnam to get her into the Harley spirit. The preparations started in the morning when our stylist came in armed with boots, helmets and other biker paraphernalia.

We got Thy into a bikini top, bitty leather shorts and of course the mandatory boots. Right about 12 in the afternoon, after we were satisfied with her outfit, our Harley Rider came by in a big, bad, bike. We asked Thy to get on it. This was the part where she freaked out. But to her credit she got on none the less (The 'ouch' not counted)and rode through town. Yes, in the very same outfit. Quite a stir she caused too. I didn't think the human mouth could produce so much saliva until i saw some males practically watering the grass. Ah, the hazards of the job.

At this point I think it would be apt to add that the whole photo shoot was our photographer Nicholas's (sick) idea. Brilliant, yes, but mildly disturbing. He is affectionately called "Blackman" for a reason. But we won't go there, just yet. Even not so innocent minds need not be corrupted further. *cough*Hefollowed in a car and snapped away as she and her biker left the other motorists eating dust.

It turned out the Handle Bar was fantastic. It was right next to the Harley Davidson showroom and had all these biker types milling around, discussing engine oil and stuffing their faces. The decor was intuitive, with a whole lot of rear view mirrors making up one big mirror in the toilet. Even the flush was made from a truck bell. We ordered what was probably an unnecessarily large amount of food and beer, but in our defense, we needed the energy. Not to mention that it was so good. My stomach agrees very heartily.
For the shoot Thy had to go topless. That was OK though, no one seemed to mind. Would you? That was the good part. The not so good part was that the shoot started proper at 5pm and went all the way to 12am. We were all exhausted. But after looking at the shots we got, our exhaustion was worthwhile. At least, that's what we say to convince ourselves. Poor Thy wanted to go clubbing, but the fatigue got to her so she went to sleep instead. Ah well. Maybe next time.
